    • Under normal circumstances, camels can get enough and quality diet from natural vegetation. Therefore
      in traditional extensive system with enough browse and water, extra (supplementary) feeding may not be
      necessary.
      During periods of food scarcity, extra feeding is essential especially among pregnant, calves and lactating
      camels.
      Supplementation can be achieved through harvesting and storage of feed materials eg acacia pods or
      buying feeds from agrovets eg dairy cubes.
      The nutritional quality of natural vegetation is highest at the time when vegetation is beginning to dry
      hence would be the most appropriate time for harvesting.
